DNA, eDNA & Species ID

Focus Ecology offer a variety of formal identification services to our clients. If you are looking for something that is not listed below, please contact us directly to see if we can help.

DNA Analysis
A recent innovation allows for genetic screening of animal products (e.g. bat droppings), to allow confident identification of species. DNA Analysis is most commonly used for identification of bat species to direct future mitigation requirements. DNA evidence is extremely useful when applying for a bat mitigation (development) licence from the relevant authority.

eDNA Analysis
Environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis of a waterbody will determine whether great crested newts (a European Protected Species) has been present over a certain period of time. Negative results can help rule out waterbodies for great crested newts and save our clients a great deal of time and money with their planning application.
