Bat Surveys

WHAT ARE BAT SURVEYS?

A daytime assessment of the site is typically the first stage in the process to establish the suitability of a site for roosting bats. Where evidence of bats is found or cannot be adequately ruled out then further surveys are required. These more detailed assessments include dusk emergence and dawn return surveys, tree-climbing surveys, bat activity surveys, DNA analysis and use of sensitive detection and recording equipment.

DO I NEED ONE?

All bats and their roost sites are strictly protected under UK and European legislation and surveys are now commonly requested by planning authorities where development projects are likely to affect built structures or mature trees.

WHY CHOOSE US?

At Focus Ecology we have the benefit of appropriately licensed (Natural England and Natural Resources Wales) bat surveyors with extensive experience of completing bat surveys for a wide variety of different projects. We have a proven track record in obtaining development (mitigation) licenses to support permitted development schemes affecting bat roosts, whilst also delivering appropriate mitigation and compensation measures. In addition we have obtained bat conservation licenses to undertake specific works to the direct benefit of bats and their roosts. We are also able to register suitable sites under a Bat Low Impact Class Licence, which can significantly accelerate the normal licensing timescales. Call us today to see if your site qualifies.
